CNG DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA
The Nigerian government is actively promoting the adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG) to address the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies and to lower transportation costs. This effort is part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), which seeks to convert a substantial number of vehicles to CNG and develop a comprehensive nationwide infrastructure for its utilization.
To date, more than 100,000 vehicles have been converted to CNG, with a goal of converting 1 million vehicles over the next three years. The government has established 19 accredited CNG conversion sites across Nigeria and launched 12 CNG retail stations in Abuja and Lagos. Additionally, plans are in place to expand the network of CNG stations throughout the country.
However, the widespread adoption of CNG faces challenges, including limited infrastructure, a shortage of conversion centers, and low public awareness. Despite these hurdles, the initiative continues to garner support from various stakeholders, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), NIPCO Gas Limited, and other private sector participants.
Xarraca Synergy Limited is among the local companies leading the advancements in CNG development in Nigeria, offering innovative and sustainable solutions for both mass transit and consumer vehicles, such as CNG cylinders and conversion kits. Our expertise and cutting-edge technology are paving the way for a greener and more efficient transportation future in the country.

The essence of the transition
Nigeria’s shift to Compressed Natural Gas represents one of the most significant clean-energy and cost-of-living interventions in the country’s transport history. Delivered under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Presidential Initiative on CNG & EV is building a nationwide ecosystem of conversion centres, refuelling stations and trained technicians to give Nigerians access to cleaner, cheaper and more secure transport fuel.
According to the Initiative, CNG is materially cheaper per kilometre than petrol, delivering meaningful monthly savings for commercial drivers while reducing emissions and easing pressure on household and business costs. The programme has also generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs across the value chain from manufacturing and conversion to logistics and maintenance.
Cylinders and conversion kits sit at the heart of this transition. They are the physical infrastructure that makes vehicle conversion possible, and their quality, safety certification and timely availability determine how quickly and how safely the programme can scale. By delivering its contracts in full and on specification, Xarraca Synergy has contributed directly to the supply backbone of Nigeria’s clean transport rollout.
A delivery grounded in safety and standards
Xarraca Synergy’s execution of these contracts reflects the standards on which the company’s reputation is built: safety, innovation, integrity and responsiveness. We remain fully committed to supporting the nation’s clean energy ambitions” —Management, Xarraca Synergy Limited
